As Los Angeles’ premier Grateful Dead cover band, Grateful Shred was born in a desert and raised in a lion’s den. Based on the East Side, The Shred operate from the Liberty Hair Farm compound, Echo Park’s very own Haight-Ashbury.

Grateful Shred shows are built on a foundation of the country-Americana classics of the early seventies, but reverently cover the entire history of the Dead. In every show, The Shred shine in their commitment to singing; their three-part harmonies give a new warmth and depth to the familiar sound. Their sets weave together songs from different eras in ways that surprise yet feel true to the spirit of live Dead. While performing fresh-but-faithful interpretations of these beloved songs, Grateful Shred hold their own in jams and explorations, testing the limits of those same tunes.

The Grateful Shred lineup includes a core four supported by a rotation of Southern California’s hottest session players. The permanent shredders are: bassist extraordinaire and Echo Park legend Dan Horne (Circles Around The Sun, Jonathan Wilson, Cass McCombs), vocalist-guitarist, and country music disciple Austin McCutchen (The Western Stars, The Velvet Bonebreakers, The White Bark Pine), and Mapache's Sam Blasucci and Clay Finch. These integral jammers are joined by virtuosos including: Richard Gowen (The Growlers, Jonathan Wilson, Vetiver), Jerry Borge (Ziggy Marley, The Gimme 5’s), Lee Pardini (Dawes),Mark Stepro (Butch Walker, Ulysses S. Grant, Ben Kweller), Dusty Ineman (Omar Velasco & The Mother Tongues), and Austin Beade (Alberta Cross, Omar Velasco). It’s a tight and grateful family of whoever’s playing in the band that night.
